Amazon’s Actual Payment for James Bond Rights Lower than Expected, Report Shows

A recent earnings report reveals that Amazon paid far less than expected for the rights to the James Bond franchise. While earlier reports suggested the deal might have cost Amazon around a billion dollars, it was actually just $20 million. This figure was revealed in a report filed by EON Productions, the company behind Bond films, which also noted that creative control now belongs to Amazon, though EON Productions remains co-owners. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, confirmed that the company’s goal is to produce ‘great movies’ under the 007 brand. The report also mentions that EON Productions’ revenue fell significantly, with $16.3 million in 2024 compared to $313 million in 2021, when ‘No Time to Die’ was released. The next Bond film is expected to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is reportedly searching for a new actor to portray 007. Some actors rumored for the role include Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Holland, though Villeneuve is said to prefer casting an unknown actor. The first film in Amazon’s Bond era is not expected to release until 2028.
