British actress Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in ‘Sex Education’ and the third season of ‘The White Lotus,’ has publicly criticized a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch that mocked her physical appearance. In the skit, titled ‘The White Potus,’ comedian Sarah Sherman portrayed Wood with exaggerated prosthetic teeth, referencing her noticeable dental gap. Wood expressed her disappointment on Instagram, calling the joke ‘mean and unfunny’ and criticizing it for ‘punching down’ on her appearance rather than delivering clever satire. She pointed out that while other characters in the sketch were political figures, her character was used to make a cheap visual gag, which she found unfair and outdated. Wood also mentioned that the fluoride joke missed the point, as her teeth are gapped, not unhealthy. She emphasized that her criticism was aimed at the concept rather than Sherman personally. Following her post, Wood received thousands of supportive messages, including from fans who felt inspired by her confidence. SNL has since issued an apology. Wood previously shared that overcoming years of bullying about her teeth made her recent success a significant personal victory.
