Disney+ to Develop ‘Afterlife with Archie’ Series by ‘Riverdale’ Creators
Disney+ has officially greenlit a television adaptation of the comic book series ‘Afterlife with Archie’, with a script-to-series commitment. The show, created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla, will transform the iconic town of Riverdale into a dark, apocalyptic setting overrun with zombies. Aguirre-Sacasa will write and executive produce the series through Muckle Man Productions. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will serve as executive producers via Berlanti Productions, alongside Jon Goldwater and Jimmy Gibbons from Archie Comics Studios. Warner Bros. Television, which has overall deals with both Muckle Man and Berlanti Productions, will handle production. The creative team has a proven track record, having previously collaborated on ‘Riverdale’, a dark reimagining of the Archie comics that ran for seven successful seasons on The CW, and ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ for Netflix. Aguirre-Sacasa also co-developed the ‘Riverdale’ spinoff ‘Katy Keene’. This new adaptation aims to blend horror elements with the classic Archie universe, expanding the franchise’s appeal to adult audiences.
