Warner Bros. Achieves Historic Box Office Streak with Seven Consecutive $40 Million+ Openings

Warner Bros. has made box office history with ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites,’ which marked the studio’s seventh consecutive film to open above $40 million. The film scored a franchise-best launch, earning $83 million domestically and $187 million globally over the weekend. This achievement follows a challenging period for the studio, with earlier films like ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ and ‘Mickey 17’ struggling at the box office. However, recent releases such as ‘A Minecraft Movie’ and ‘Superman’ have turned the studio’s fortunes around. The success of these films has not only yielded impressive box office figures but also strong profit margins. For instance, ‘Sinners’ and ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ are expected to generate significant theatrical profits. Warner Bros. has turned around its financial position in 2025, earning an estimated $600 million in profits. This shift has also helped stabilize the leadership of the studio’s Motion Picture Group co-chiefs, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy. Despite some major box office losses earlier this year, Warner Bros. is now looking ahead to a promising slate of films, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another,’ set to open in September.
