She died peacefully on Thursday night of natural causes, surrounded by her daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna. Born in 1925 in New York City, Lockhart’s career spanned over eight decades. She made her stage debut at the young age of eight, followed by her first film appearance in 1938’s ‘A Christmas Carol.’ Over the years, she performed in a variety of films, Broadway productions, and television shows, with notable roles in ‘Petticoat Junction,’ ‘Happy Days,’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ She became particularly beloved for her portrayal of the matriarch in ‘Lassie’ from 1958, and her iconic role as Maureen Robinson in the 1960s sci-fi series ‘Lost in Space.’ Beyond her acting accomplishments, Lockhart was recognized with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and earned Emmy nominations. Her family has requested donations to various charitable organizations in lieu of flowers. A private funeral will be held to honor the life of this remarkable performer.
