The making of Michael Cimino’s 1978 film ‘The Deer Hunter’ was as intense and legendary as the movie itself. Robert De Niro trained in a real steel mill in Ohio under a false name, working in 180°F conditions alongside actual steelworkers, some of whom were cast as extras.
