Catherine Anne O’Hara (March 4, 1954 – January 30, 2026) was a celebrated Canadian and American actress, comedian, and screenwriter whose career spanned over five decades. She rose to fame on the sketch comedy series SCTV, where she became known for her memorable characters like Lola Heatherton and Dusty Towne, earning an Emmy for her writing in 1982. In 1980, she briefly joined Saturday Night Live but left without appearing in any episodes, returning to SCTV for the 1981–82 season. O’Hara made her feature film debut in ‘Double Negative’ (1980) alongside fellow SCTV stars John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Joe Flaherty. The 1980s marked her transition from a beloved Canadian television comedian to an internationally recognized film actress, with roles in ‘After Hours’ (1985) and ‘Heartburn’ (1986). Her performance as Delia Deetz in Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice’ (1988) became iconic, and it was on that set that she met her future husband, production designer Bo Welch.
